I was about to crossing the junction on my bike (on a safety island) in the A505 this evening as the first car about to drive into the junction I was at, and not realising another car was closely following the first car.

I saw the second car as soon the first car went into the junction, and decided it was unsafe to cross the road, so I stopped and dismounted from the bike. The driver from the second car stopped and signals me to cross the road and a motor bike which followed the second car closely failed to stop in time and crashed into the back of the second car.

The biker flew off with his bike, and I was half mounted on my bike. So I was unable to move whilst the motor bike flew at me, and I decide not to jump as I could only jump into the road and it could be worst than hit by a flying bike. (I was kind of certain that it will not fly that far anyway)

The motor bike driver was still conscious after the impact, and luckily no visible injury, but he can’t move his leg.

Called the ambulance, and they arrived within 5 minutes. Picked up the driver and gave police my contact details. And realised I have lost my 180S storm ear muff during the 999 call.

I was lucky that I was not injured and am surprised that no one went explosive at the scene.
I don’t think it was my fault but I am involved and someone got injured. (One of my colleagues lost his leg in a motorbike accident a few months ago). I guess I’m in a shock at the moment and keep thinking it could be me next time.

No fault of yours. Biker shouldn't have been so close that he/she couldn't stop in time. Unfortunate, but not your fault.

It has happened to me - waiting on a cycle path to cross road - a car stops unexpectantly - both to me and the car behind it which crashes into the rear of the stopped car - its not your fault - but you do somehow manage to feel a little guilty

feel a little worried abt cycleing as a car can bump into me at any time. I slipped due to icy road a few weeks ago. it was a close call also.

I remember being in a cab years back going to Waterloo for a p155 up.My driver braked and then suddenly I heard a revving and a motorbike went into the back of us.I'd say it was the bikers fault for not being in control of his machine, just like your incident.

We all have to leave a safe gap between us and the vehicle in front.....happens to everyone. Highway code.

Unfortunately, the motorcyclist wasn't paying attention etc... happens....

Happens with cycles too.

You were waiting to cross, the driver slows, but the motorbike didn't react in time.
If you gave your details, all you need to do is to explain what happened when contacted.

Things get very messy when insurance companies get involved.....they are barstewards.... fortunately, you are just a witness - you are not at fault.

Nasty incident to be involved in - glad you're ok, and that the biker sounds not too bad. But as to blame, no question, as others have said. Reverse the situation - if you rode into the back of a vehicle that had stopped in front of you, would you be looking for someone else to blame? I don't think so.

Just watch out that they don't accuse you of stepping out into the road and forcing the car to stop suddenly.

I agree, not your fault but bound to shake you up. Try and relax tonight eh?

You're the least to blame.

The motorcyclist carries most of the blame. Whilst the car shouldn't have stopped quickly to let you cross (and strictly speaking should NEVER have signalled you to cross, though we all do it), the car would have had to stop if you HAD stepped out - the driver was prepared but the motorcyclist was not.

You are merely a witness. Albeit one that could be dragged in if the driver panics thinking he is in some way to blame and tries to lay the blame elsewhere

The cars were not going fast anyway, as the first car had to slow down to go into the junction.
I cant remember if the second car stopped or not, but it was definitlly very slow at the time of impact. It was not an emergency stop.

Not your fault but I feel your blame, especially when it's a motorcyclist but he should have made sure he could stop. As already said, you are just a witness.

You didn't cause the accident. Someone else did by miss-judgment & not reading the traffic or road correctly.

Was this the crossing between Whittlesford/Duxford by the way? I hate that island there, if you're coming out of Whittlesford your visibility is very low if someone is nipping a long a little to quickly.

Not your fault. I know you're bound to feel rattled and guilty, but it really wasn't your fault.
Don't blame yourself.

Whereabouts on the A505 was this, out of interest? I live near Letchworth, and often cycle across / along it.
