Scotland : Glasgow & Clyde Valley CC Ecosse ride (West) - Saturday Oct 20

An assortment of family things have conspired to prevent my attendance at the ride .

I'd really love to come over, meet the new folks and ride with everyone ... but it is not to be. This may save some embarrassment as I have been on a bike - any bike - only twice since the middle of August. (so probably once more than Fubar )

Hey! That's a bit harsh - I've been out at least 3 times! Still, the bike's nice and shiney was looking forward to watching you fall over on your recumbent-thingy, will just have to laugh at Colin instead.

I have been watching the thread, not jumped in because I have known for a long time that I would not be able to attend.

I hope you all have a great run out and you keep the very finest CC Ecosse traditions alive.

There is a little known tradition that participants should always consume a slab of cake for each of the riders who would have ridden but are not able to do so because they are eating cake elsewhere. BTW I don’t like chocolate cake.

tbf they are doing you a favour saying they would do it for free for something you done to the bike Hopefully you get it sorted though

The bike will be fixed, at the grand cost of £70. To be honest, the weather's been pretty miserable. I don't expect it to be any different on Saturday.

This just in from the Met Office: "Starting cloudy on Saturday with some mist but staying mostly dry with brighter conditions developing" (not quite, but promising!)

Sounds like you need to start saving yourself some money by dong a bit of DIY maintenance. The most difficult part of it is getting sufficient confidence to giver it a go. There are plenty of on-line guides,videos etc to tell you how to do most things on a bike (maybe even how to ride it ).

I can assure you that, if I can replace shifters (and I have done both sides), then you can too. Building up a tool-kit makes pressie buying easy for the family too ...

A real Scottish weather expert already - and at such tender years ...

I reckon a toolkit will be on my Christmas pressie list and then hopefully I can do all of my maintenance by myself!

Are you going to make the ride? £70 is a big chuck of what your whole bike cost

I think is probably stretching it, but absence of is looking likely.

Looking very much forward to the ride now.

I'll be stopping off at the McLellan arch on the way out at 945 to see if there are any locals joining in at late notice.

Enjoy the ride guys, I cant make it as i've got some stuff to do around lunchtime.

Just a heads up if there has been alot of rain then sometimes Finlaystone road floods just after the turn off the Old Greenock Road. I've never seen it BB or hub deep so it wont problem in that respect but there are a couple of potholes that are difficult to see under the water, so it pays to be cautious going through it. Assuming it is flooded of course!

Colin, I'm 99% sure I'll make the ride Sorry you can't make it Scoosh, we'll all have some extra cake in your name (what a shame). My mudguards and overshoes arrived today!
