I'll try and get along to this. I have done the route before on a previous CC Ecosse ride a couple of years back and did the Linlithgow to Kincardine Bridge part of it just last weekend, so i'm reasonably confident of the route. Passing through Grangemouth on the NCN is a nightmare, much faster and safe (cycle lane provided) on the main rd past the town centre before rejoining the NCN. I remember finding the section near the FRB tricky in terms of NCN signs (i'm sure we ended up XC for a brief spell before Rosyth!).Hlab also recently posted a link to the route in a previous thread http://bit.ly/xyTeIf which should help.

Yes, had we but gone a further 100m, we would have found the correct (= not off-road !) path

Grangemouth is not the most pleasant place but it can be passed through in reasonable time. IIRC we had 'issues' getting to G'mouth ...

There is a signposted cycle track after Charlestown (heading West) which brings you out just before Crombie, I took it last week only to find it is a fairly potholed rough track - not good on a road bike! To be fair the road is quite narrow but I think I would have preferred it.

Mind it's the east side (southbound carriageway) of the FRB that's open for cycles/pedestrians these days.
You probably already know this but just mentioning it as it obviously affects the approach from the North (clockwise route) more than it does the South (since we have a service tunnel ;0)).

Well, it's funny you should mention that - I went into Edinburgh last night and specifically had a look, and the Southbound side was closed! It was the Northbound (West) pedestrian walkway that was open. Not sure if that is just because they are doing roadworks, but I'll keep checking it this week and see if it stays the same. Hi Telemark

To be honest the route is up for discussion, most of the unofficial routes I've seen are FRB to Kincardine Bridge via Linlithgow/Grangemouth - then back via Culross/Limekilns to FRB. Not sure what the "official" route is but I'm sure we could add a loop in to Stirling which would obviously increase the distance or arrange to meet you somewhere suitable.

Where do you live? Col5632 and I live on the Fife side so the idea was to start at or near FRB approx 10am, pick up whoever else want to come on the Edinburgh side then progress Westerly from there - any alternative suggestions welcome!

Regards, Mark

Hi Fubar/Mark,

Thanks!
I'm in Edinburgh. There is no need for extra loops, it's normally up to people joining into rides anywhere other than the start to find the group, given route details and contact mobiles to find out about progress along the route, in case of unexpected delays. Having said all that, it would probably be easiest (if I can make it next Saturday), if I join in from the start and peel off at Stirling if I am flagging, rather than trying to meet you guys anywhere along the road ...
I really hope I can make it, but there are other things outside my control to consider!

Cool, I'll stick my mobile number in the conversation - hope you can make it! Regards, Mark

Depending on various things such as wind speed/direction, I will either hop on a train to Linlithgow and join you at or close to the start, or I might ride up to Grangemouth and attempt to adjust the timing correctly.
