Incidentally, we have just moved our utilities to the utilities warehouse, if you can do 4 products, like gas, electricity, phones etc, they do all sorts of deals and cash backs. So far we seem to be saving money, and when you shop at certain stores (sainburys being an example) you get money off your utility bills.
I wished I had moved over last year, after buying a road and MTB in the same year, I would have got 3% cash back at Evans cycles, damn !!!!!

No central heating on here. This is the worlds warmest flat. I haven't even put my fish tank heaters back on yet and they are at a nice sensible temperature. We don't have all the windows open right now but the bedroom, kitchen and bathroom windows are open still as the flat is unbearable. Still in tee shirt and shorts here

If anyone is looking for a nice little wood burner to help with the fuel bills, I have mine for sale. I am not allowed it here  something about buggering up the gas central heating flue or some such guff  I am waiting for the first frost and then I will stick it up on gumtree.

Last year our heating bills were non existent, sadly I can't say the same about the ones we will get this year. We are hoping, that as downstairs neighbour likes her flat to be like Bermuda in the winter, that we will get the rising heat benefit from her.

I usually hold out til November. I did have one vague cheat the other night when I discovered that my son's football kit (needed for the next day) was still wet inside the washing machine. I don't have a dryer, so heating went on for a couple of hours to dry it.
That doesn't really count though, does it?

Try and hold out as much as possible.
We have a large south facing conservatory and with this mornings sun it is nice and warm.

I've tested it, but there still seems to be plenty of heat in the fabric of the house, so not yet.

I am planning on holding off until at least October, I don't think it will get too cold before then. The kids cope with heat/cold much better than myself or my wife so they don't mind whether it is on or not.

lit the fire last night for the first time, and enough wood already chopped for the winter, already hunkering down..
If only you could generate as much heat from burning wood as you do from chopping it:sad:.

Ours is on timed. In the cold it will go on low 24/7 as this is the most efficient, just turn thermostat down. Just needs a quick blast at the minute.

Just got more gas bottles delivered for the caravan, not needed the central heating since late May.

Since having a log burner fitted in November 2011 the only use for the boiler has been to heat the hot water, last years bill was £87.

Open fire has been going since last Monday, this house is always ridiculously cold, even during temps outside hit 32 degrees, it was still only 15 degrees in here.

During the coldest winter months, I've seen 8 degrees in the front room without the fire going.

I used to live in a house like that. We had oil fired central heating and we couldn't afford to run it so we, more or less, lived in the front room with our lovely open fire. We were right at the bottom of a strath in the Highlands and shivered like whippets all year round.
