Pretty sure i know the answer...but what do you guys think of this......see pics!

This is my Cervelo S5.....with no warning...the mech seems to have dropped into the spokes and ripped the drop out right off...along with part of the frame. Anyone had anything similar??

Cheers

Phill

Oh...and yes i know.....the cassette and chain is dirty....!!!

Location
Loch side.
That's no frame manufacturing fault. One of two things happened here:
a) The top limit screw wasn't adjusted properly and the chain overshifted into the spokes, couldn't rotate properly and therefore started to wind in the slack run at the bottom and eventually ran out of slack and ripped the derailer out. Evidence for this is whether or not the chain was jammed between top sprocket and spokes.
b) The chain failed when one of the sideplates popped off it's rivet. The sideplate was facing in the direction of travel and hooked onto the derailer's cage as it passed. Evidence for this can be found from subtle marks on the derailer cage where the chain first hooked and of course, on the chain itself.
