Hi there everyone,

Can you help with my little problem.

When pedals go backwards the chain starts to come off the front rings, no matter whether in large or middle. Heads down to lower ring. No problems changing gear up or down in normal use. Got a triple for info. This is a pain when at junctions/lights when want my clipped in foot at top of revolution and ready to go.

Any thoughts?

Hi wormo

It could be happening because of an extreme chain angle, eg. large front chain ring and large sprocket on the back or small front chain ring and small sprocket on rear.

Either put your bike in a stand or flip it upside down and have a play. With the chain in a perfect line, turn the pedals backward and see if it tries to come off the chain ring.

Try each chain ring in turn, getting the chain in a perfect line. Then try it with a bit of chain angle, large ring/sprocket etc. and see what happens.

Started young, and still going.
I had a similar problem to this, I found out the chain was really in need of a clean and some lube, have a look see how mucky/dry the chain is.
