It's not a coincidence. PS I'm very experienced in bike mechanics. The chain had worn the sprockets differently being even sprockets and I'd not touched the rear wheel for months of daily riding. Both chain and sprocket were due a change anyway.
I've had exactly the same noise when fitting a new chain on a worn fixed sprocket. I service all my own bikes and have done for over 30 years.
