wanting to keep my chain in top condition. Now do you clean the chain with a rag and then lubricate it or would you invest in some degrease agent :blush:

Remove the chain and lie it flat in an old baking tray then scrub it with an old paintbrush and white spirit or paraffin or turps subs. Pour the dirty cleaner into a jam jar and leave it to settle for reuse next time. Keep changing the liquid until all traces of old lube and grit are washed out. Dry overnight and relube lightly. For interim maintenance use the Mickle method.

I used to use one of them until I discovered that if you use it with the bike leaning to the left, runny cleaning solvent dribbles down the chainring arms and gets onto the BB axle then into the bearings.
