Chain problem

out for a ride this morning and the chain came apart on a link leaving one side of the link in but bent and this has scored the in side of the crank arm and the silver taps on the chain set looks like one has come off and the others twisted them unless they are meant to be like that. Not sure if it’s done any thing to the front mec. I guess the silver taps on the chain set are to aid shifts can they be replaced?

I've never seen the pins sold separately so doubt they are available as a spare part.

If there are pins missing, I'd be tempted to replace the chain and give it a try. Just make sure that if anything is not as it should be, it's not going to cause further damage.

This web page shows some detail on the pins. The picture with a blue background is clickable, so you can see more detail.

I’m off with kids tomorrow so will pop out and get a chain see how it works with new chain in. Never put a new chain on what’s best for live on the new one and is there any thing special that needs to be done

Well out of warranty then. I'm sure the chain ring will perform just as before without those pins.
Cut the new chain to the same size as the original link for link.

Chain tool, chain links and that'll be good as new. Don't throw away the whole chain for a minor problem in one section.
Maybe but as it's three years old replacing it is not really an extravagance.

While you could just replace the broken link with a split link I'm not sure I would trust the chain not to fail at another link.
There are plenty of vidios on utube on how to replace a chain.
It just important that you can run big-big. If you cannot and shift that far by mistake things go bang ......

The pins on the chainring are there just to help pick the chain up onto the chainring. So they're not 100% needed but the shift might not be so smooth without.
