Chain ring PIN lost from large ring-what is it`s function?

PS check the inner ring is correct as well as they are quite often asymmetrical (i.e. designed to go on one way - may alter the chain line).

Writing on the chainrings usually faces the outside, away from the frame.

I`v sorted it now , but I would not have done without the help of you guys. A bit of help goes a long way, and takes away stress. Thank you to all who posted, it is much appreciated.

In future when I remove things I will take photos. Good job I don`t have false teeth.
