I have a bike with silver rings on black arms - looks OK - can't see why the other way round would be a bad thing.

BCD: bolt circle diamter. The diameter of the imaginary circle linking the centres of the holes where the chainring bolts go.

It's quite hard to measure. What you can do, though is measure the distance between two adjacent holes and then look up what the BCD is on Sheldon's pages.

As a general rule, compacts are 110; most doubles are 130, Campag is 135, track is 144, triples have a 74 inner ring paired with 110, 130 or 135.

Campag have made it more difficult with Ultra-Torque as you need proprietary chainrings.

Not sure about jockey wheels.

Stronglight and TA make Campag chainrings, but as I say make sure they are the older version (all arms identical).
