Whisky - Talisker 18 y.o or Highland Park.

Champagne - buy Nyetimber instead (English sparkling). I prefer it to standard champagnes like Moet or Veuve, and it's a little cheaper too. Available in Waitrose, and decent wine merchants.

Cheap Champagne is (IMHO) not worth the bother - at £15 or less you'd be better off with Cava, Cremant de Bourgogne or something New World, like Pelorus from NZ.
Still buy a lot of it though. Our local bottle bank has been on danger money for the last 3 weeks or so.

My daughter worked as a waitress in a hotel a couple of years ago. Maggie was staying and my daughter served her a couple of times. Apparently, she was pretty gaga. So, I don't think you will need to wait too long to crack open your 'champagne socialist' Krug.
