I am considering changing the rear 8 speed 12/25 Shimano cassette on my hybrid to something that will help me get up steep hills when carrying load.

All I know is the chainset is Shimano 2300 and the bike is a Ridgeback Flight 01 (2010).

Ideally I'd like to change it to a 12/32 but not sure if the HG number matters or not.
E.g. HG50 or HG41 etc.
Ebay is full of HG42 12/32 Hybrid MTB cogs. I don't know what my bike uses.

Can I put a HG41 cassette on a bike that is using a HG50 chain ?

if its standard 2300 rear mceh the max you can get according to the blurb is 26 tooth but i have heard of people running a 28 with no problem, another option is smaller chain rings

Thats what I saw too - I wil have to double check what they fitted to it when I get home. The online info is pretty scant for a 4 year old bike.
