Not sure about the lifetime warranty argument. Yes, it's nice to have a piece if mind, but if you think the frame is likely to break at some point, then you're better staying clear if it.

Some brands aside, Cube being one of them, aren't most bikes made in Taiwan by the same handful of companies. So really you're just buying a badge. And if you're driven by the badge, then you're not buying the right bike for you.

Been to have a look in my LBS this afternoon and found a Giant Defy 4 for £599 on tick or £540 for cash. As I intend to pay cash, I am seriously considering it. It is a compact with 12/32 cassette. Great for me as , as you know , I am a snail going up hills. So what do you think of the Giant?

Although many bikes are made in the same far east factory they do not all use the same grade carbon, the same grade resin or identical layups as such I believe that your buying more than a badge in many cases.

Mine's white and celeste. But then I didn't choose it, rather it chose me.

Do you mean it is a good buy?

I was simply responding to an earlier post which said most bikes are made by the same factories which although true did not clarify that the end result is vastly different.
I personally would not buy either, simply because of the warranty stated. If the company is not willing to stand behind the product I am not sure that I want to. I have a longer warranty on my flat screen TV than that offered by some bike companies.

Guarantee is 10 years on main components. Good enough for me as I will be ancient by then and probably not cycling any more.

I commute on a Cube and have a Giant for fun days. Giants much better for me, but you need to test ride bikes before making a proper decision
