changing 9 speed mtb shifts

Hi all,

I'm changing the shifters on my 3 x 9 speed mtb, it is 4 years old and currently has alivio M430 shifters on it.

It seems that the higher end gear is not supportng 9 speed anymore very much and if my info is correct the alivio is the best quality 9 speed shifters available new.(M4000 I believe)

Can anyone confirm this?
Is there a better 9 speed shifter set to go with the alivio front mech and slx rear mech?

Yep, got a set of deore being delivered £31 new....should do the trick.
