I think the design of the website is purely up to the owner. He will, and should, do what he wants with his website. If it's not liked or if people feel they can do better the solutions are obvious.

I hope you are not being serious. You do realise that the website is run as a business and draws income. And like all business it needs to retain and grow its customer base. The customer in this case are the folks who create threads, post and do views. CRC, Wiggle etc spend a lot on navigation UI design to grow their businesses . Intuitive navigation is a must when the World is content rich.

The business model is similar to free newspapers where readership drives advertising revenue

From a personal point of view I think a forum for Clydesdales would be awesome
Somebody suggested that they would all be better together on here. They had a vote and I believe the neigh vote won.

Condescending git. Of course I realise that. There is a subtle difference between this site and a site such as Wiggle though. The "customer" doesn't buy anything direct from the owner of the website. Sure he earns money from click through advertising but the control of the website is still his and I would think the tipping point between "Hmmm, yes that's a good idea" and "Sod this for a lark there are easier ways to make a living" is much easier to reach than with a site that actually sells something.

Condescending git. Of course I realise that but the ultimate power still lies with the website owner cos he can always just turn round and say "Sod it, there are more fun things to do in life" and close the website down.

A business owner has every right to close his business even if it is financially viable. That is indeed within his power. Let me know if you need any further help in understanding business and the importance of customers.

Cyclist33/Arrowfoot, take a minute to look at the forum list and tell us what you would like to do, then if the consensus is that you have some good ideas and we all agree Shaun can look at the list and adjust the arrangement, if it's simple to do.

There's no need for people to get upset.... have a cup of tea and while you're drinking it put a few ideas down.

Somehow I wouldn't have thought I'd have that much to gain from any help you're able to offer. I think you can probably teach me more about long distance cycling than you can about business

You have absolutely no clue what UI means and why it is so important when websites are designed.
Is there a connection between UI and your ill mannered nature?
The only problem I have with Cycle Chat is the occasional lapse in good manners and politeness of some users.

I'm intrigued - since you very obviously do have a clue, what does it mean and what are the most important factors to consider when looking at the useability of a website or software application?

I stopped short of adding forums for Unicycing; Hipsters; Bike Messengers; Gear Ratios; Urban Cycling; Cycling Culture; Weight Weenies; Critical Mass Rides; regional ride forums; Lowriders and Cruisers; Fifty Plus; Car Free Living; Cycling Blogs; Books, Music and Entertainment; Winter Cycling; Tandem Cycling; Women's Cycling; Framebuilders; Cycling Trade; a breakdown of the component and accessories forum into multiple subs; Cycling Training; Cycling Holidays; Clydesdales; brand-specific forums; Coaching; ... well, you get the idea ...

Cheers,
Shaun

You know, I've always though those forums are what this place lacked. Bring 'em on, Shaun.

I demand a separate forum for those of us that use this fine smooth shifting clunky temperamental derailleur system.
