just had a new 330e delivered ... 148mpg or so BMW say. Yeah right. I will get nowhere near @glasgowcyclist figures above, which are quite impressive.
We also had a T8, 440 bhp version thanks to the Polestar option. If we were diligent about plugging it in as often as we could we also used to get a little over 110mpg. That is a bit of a fib figure on its own because one has to account for the electricity, but perhaps a fair closer to the truth than Andy managed above because we did probably 95% or more of our motoring on the battery alone, 2 or 3 weeks between the ICE engine waking up.
The battery range was handy for us (the first updated model with an enlarged battery, could do 27 miles +/- a bit), work and back for 3ish days for Mrs D. Indeed, the only time the ICE engine fired up for any real length of time was if we ventured out of our daily routine and went to visit Mrs Ds parents, or went away for a few days. We could do a little better than 40 on ICE alone at sensible motorway speeds.
We didn't need 2 x XC90s (I had a mk1 as well at the time) and the experience had given us a taste of EVness so one had to go. The T8 went and made way for the Pornstar, which was a fabulous machine but there was something about the layout of the pillars what made it awkward to park with only one functioning eye, so that went last autumn and she downsized to a Mini Cooper S Electric 3, perfect for her now sligtly longer commute and a hoot for her to fling about the country lanes - unlike me ahe enjoys driving. For the motoring she does the Mini is perfection, and she loves it so much she's already eyeing the new model when it's launched.
No, it’s that standard Scottish thriftiness! I have a very light right foot.
And just in case anyone thinks I was exaggerating about the economy:

T'was a gift from my Dad, a means of passing on something to us while being a bit circumspect re cash and tax.Xc90 is perhaps the one gen1 EV/hybrid I fancy owning tbh.
That’s quite low miles, why changing so very early?
I doubt that. Glasgow’s LEZ isn’t like others where you can pay a charge to enter, it’s a complete exclusion of non-compliant vehicles.
For cars, the fine is £60 and that is doubled for each offence of entry, up to a maximum of £480. Once the maximum is reached, each subsequent offence attracts a £480 fine.
This summary is from the BBC:
- The owner of any non-compliant vehicle detected within the low emission zone will initially face a fine of £60.
- The penalty charge will then double with each subsequent breach, rising to a maximum of £480 for cars and light goods vehicles and £960 for buses and HGVs.
- Once that figure is reached, the maximum fine will be imposed for each day that the vehicle enters the zone.
- The rate is reset to £60 if there are no breaches for 90 days.
Just FYI the reg checker is live for Glasgow , should have copied the link ! My bad however I can tell you it’s broken . My euro 4 diesel passes on the reg checker , however in the small print it states euro 6 only !
