Hi,

Bit of a beginner question (I guess this is the right place then!), but what reading http://www.cyclechat...on-your-hybrid/ got me thinking as to what are your options for changing tyre sizes and what must you do?

For example, my bike - http://www.marin.co.....php?ModNo=10AN says "Rims - WTB Dual Duty, Double Wall, 36 Hole with CNC Side Walls" and "Tyres - Maxxis Overdrive, 700 x 35c with Kevlar Inside Puncture Protection", and I'm very pleased with those tyres so far. However, I'd always assumed that I would have to replace like for like.
So, as long as it's 700, I can put pretty much anything on there? Or are there limits? What determines those limits - the rims? Would I need to change the inner tubes?

Thanks,

MG

I have a race bike which has tyres the same width as the brake tracks. This means the wheel can be taken out and replaced without messing with brake QRs or unhitching straddle cables.

Mavic MA2 and Hutchinson 22s.

The original rims on the bike were MAs, which were 20mm across the brake track and 20mm tyres were fitted on them.

Some details from the 'bible':

Sheldon Brown

As can be seen from Sheldon's chart, a 19mm interior rim width with a 23mm tyre is in the red. Also, a 17mm interior rim width with a 20mm tyre mounted on it is in the red.
Even the 17mm interior rim width with a 23mm wide tyre is in the red. He should have phoned Peugeot and told them they'd been fitting the wrong size tyre for fifty years.
