I've seen a few copies of It's Not About The Bike at boot sales. Can't remember the name of the author.
lol I picked that up in a charity shop whilst in Devon.

I started going in charity shops when I was really hard up but now am a bit of an addict.

I probably get about half my clothes from charity shops. I have a great Barbour jacket that I bought 10 years ago for about £5. Curtains, light fittings all sorts.

Wifey gets most of her books in there and donates them back.

They seem more interesting than most shops and really have good stuff.

Better pickings in posher areas like Winchester or Salisbury. Basingstoke charity shops are full of Primark stuff!

I have two teen daughters who both get lots of retro clothes in charity shops. Eldest is a poor student and manages her money very well. Youngest is 15 and volunteers to work in the BHF shop every Saturday morning. She is always finding things in there.

When my mum died I gave a load of her stuff to the local hospice shop and they sent me a nice letter as it raised about £750 which I was pleased to see. They seem well organised and generally are good at setting a price for things.

In a throwaway age it is really good to see them find another life for things and raise a bit of money for a good cause along the way.

Nt and I were invited to a party on Saturday (theme: glamour), and I brought over my black dress and a silver shawl, but didn't have any jewelry. We poked around the charity shops on Saturday morning and got a necklace and bracelets, and another bracelet which will go very well with the necklace I'm making for my wedding outfit.

Back in York, we'll often visit more charity shops on a Saturday morning than we will visit 'proper' shops.

Got Master A_T a half set of golf clubs, bag, lots of useful tees and golfballs in the zip up bits, including an umbrella, a plastic/ pacamac cagoule thing and a lightweight trolley all for £15 when he expressed an interest in starting... just as well, as he's not used them yet!

In the middle of last months monsoon one charity shop stuck out a pile of sunglasses including a £2 pair of Smiths Optics.

A bit scratched but they really do keep the glare of the sun on a wet road down to a minimum.

I found a rather nice Nikon lens with a 'broken front lens' in a basket full of other old photographic stuff prided at£2.50 the broken front element was actually a cracked UV filter! I knew the true worth of the lens when i bought it and guilt got the better of me so i went back the following day and put £20 in the donation box.
