I buy the own brand ones from Wiggle. I haven't noticed any difference in comparison to branded tubes.

I have had them caked in mud and bent on the MTB when I have lost the cap, I didn't run a forensic test to see how the damage occurred you will just have to believe me.

The only way to bend it is to leave the valve unscrewed - which comes down to user error.

It was screwed tight it bent the threaded bit at the top and would not unscrew.
I would hazard a guess that whatever did that would have not been prevented by little bit of plastic on top.

Dustcaps are needed on Schrader valves to prevent grit entering and opening the plunger, causing a deflation.

They seem fine - I use them on my commuting and road bikes. I haven't weighed them but they don't feel any heavier, and the only punctures I've had are where glass or flint has penetrated the tyre casing.
OK cheers, may just give them a go next time I have a Wiggle order.
