Garmin Edge 20 is what you need. Will also save your phone battery as you can use it for Strava too.

Or you could get an Edge 200 second hand that will be even cheaper (but you have to plug that into the computer if you use it for Strava)

Maybe an old Edge 510 - they are pretty decent for following routes and offer wireless uploads.

I've used the straps myself with my own smartphone. It wiggled a bit but otherwise perfectly secure.

Edit: The obvious issue with this would be waterproofing. Cling film maybe?
wow. at 51p delivered those straps are worth a try. I cannot quite see how they work though? they seem to fix round the bars then provide two loops,,,,

You can put a route into a Lezyne macro, which can then give you turn by turn directions, £79.99.

Put strap on bars, hold object on strap, pull the back loop under bar and stretch over the front of the object (which is above the front loop), pull the front loop under bar and stretch over the back of the object.
