Cheats for moving gravel??

Being lazy, I'm hoping for some tips here:

Need to move a thin layer of gravel from the back garden, to be re-purposed at some point in the front garden. THERE IS DIRT DIRECTLY UNDERNEATH!
The obvious issue is that I want to leave the dirt where it is!

I feel some Heath Robinson arrangement involving trowels/shovels and a colander might work?!? :P

Put a board on the floor and shovel it off the board. Shuffle the board up to, ideally under the edge of the gravel as you clear it. This makes the job a hell of a lot easier

Do it when the gravel is dry so that it's easier to shake the soil off the gravel.

I think you want a riddle rather than the kitchen colander  Again wet gravel/soil will clog up the holes in the riddle.

If it's a thin layer of gravel I'd rake it all into a pile and then shovel that into your container. Probably I'd shovel it into bags and leave it for now. You say you're not re-using it straight away.

Quarries use water and a screen to separate gravel from sand or soil if they want the gravel clean or dry if they don’t.

A garden sieve with the largest possible aperture. Gravel is considered to be larger than 4 mm.
