hi
I used to do a figure of 8 loop from Warrington to the south: Darebury - Preston on the Hill - Comberbach (all on minor roads avoiding the A553) - over the Weaver at Acton Bridge - B5153 to Crowton - TL to Norley - through Delamere Forest - TR three times and up to the mast on top of the hill - banging descent through Kingsley - back over the Weaver - Antrobus - Appleton Thorn & back to Warrington. Nice interesting route, not too much traffic as long as you avoid the A roads. About 40 miles IIRC. Does not pass any shops or caffs though, although you can go a little ways south on the B5152 to an excellent cafe near Delamere Station.
Another good one is to the E of Wrrington via Lymm the E over Sinderland Green and the edge of Altringham & back to Dunham Massey via a tiny lane. Navigation can be tricky but it is worth it. This route goes right past a decent pub at Durnam Massey.
A memorable ride I did once was riding through the Stanlow oil refinery on the Ince road on a dim December afternoon. Road was very rough indeed though it was amazing with all the gleaming pipes everywhere and flames on top of the stacks. I like industrial areas, I like the way the places aren't made twee but are entirely functional...

Anyway have a great ride whatever you decide to do...

I regularly do some of the routes mentioned above. Did Widnes, Runcorn, Gt. Budworth, Acton Bridge, Kingsley, Mouldsworth, Helsby, Frodsham, Sutton Weaver then back to Widnes via Dutton, Hatton, Walton, Sankey & Penketh last Sunday. About 58 miles in total. I've also been out with Billy on his Oulton Park run! Loads of great routes around Cheshire! Often ride out to Haydock then head back to Winwick and out Culcheth, Lymm, Frodsham and Runcorn and back over the bridge to Widnes.
Perhaps we could organise a ride of around 50ish miles for when the Hip Priest is back in town? If we could all agree on a route and a meeting place or have pick-up points along the route! Just a suggestion, any thoughts/ideas anyone!

Nice routes. Have done the Antrobus bit a few times, and the Dunham Massey run is one of my all time faves
