I've use a chiropractor on and off for maybe 12 / 15 years. The first time after a severe bout of back pain which had me off work for almost a week. Sadly the doctor offered very little help and suggested paracetamol and bed rest. It actually got worse just laying down.
I went to a practitioner who my wife had used. He got me back on my feet and walking straight again right away. The pain eased and I was working again the following day.
I didn't need to use him again for years and when I did it was the same story. A bit of manipulation and I was walking straight and functioning. No neck or spine cracking, no hoodoo, no trying to flog me, potions and pills. I asked him what he was doing and he explained everything, the whys and wherefores. Why the muscles were in spasm and why what he was doing eased it. There is no placebo effect for me. It just works.
It could be that a damn good massage from a sports physio would do the job just as well but I would still have to pay.
Now I'm older, and stiffer, I find I do need to use his services more often and in fact I book a session once every 4 months or so just to ease out tight muscles and stiffness.
OK it's a cost but well worth the money from my perspective.
