Hi,

For the 2nd time in two months, I lost a spoke on my rear wheel. I think it might be time to buy a new one (or the pair) as these wheels are about 4 years old and I struggled last time to get a replacement spoke. I'll have to take it to a shop to swap the cassette..etc over as I don't have the tools at home.

My current wheelset (now discontinued) is the Shimano RX05 for disc brakes. I've looked at two options;

The Shimano RX31 which looks like a updated version of the RX05 (£180)
http://www.wiggle.co.uk/shimano-rx31-road-disc-brake-wheelset-centrelock/

and these Mavic Ksyrium (£365)
https://www.evanscycles.com/mavic-ksyrium-centre-lock-700c-road-clincher-wts-wheelset-2017-EV287164

The price difference is quite a lot but I can't see any difference. The resellers don't give the weight but the Mavic site says theirs weight 1890 grams.

Does anyone think there's anything to choose from here apart from price?
Thanks,
Dermot

No view on Disc wheelsets, but a cassette tool and chain whip are pretty cheap tools, prob cheaper than paying your lbs for just 1 cassette change.

If you're going to the shop for the cassette change anyway, why not buy the wheels from there? They'll probably have some good advice, and if you buy the wheels from them, I should expect them to swap the cassette over for free.

That's why I was scouting the Evans site. They're pretty near by.

These look good but my current tyre is 700x28. I'm not sure I want to go down to 17. They have a good selection there though.
It says 'The lightweight rims are now wider to increase air volume and for a better fit with tyres up to 32mm.' and 'Recommended tyre sizes: 25 to 32 mm' under tech, so no issue with having 700c x 28mm tyres

ETRO 622x17c is a different measurement
