I must confess I quite like nature progs. Always something to learn, usually visually interesting, easy to watch with informative and likeable presenters ....

Then, all of a sudden there was Chris Packham, preened, polished know it all with a self-satisfied nay looking down his nose air of superiority. I have to confess that I found him annoying to the point that if he was presenting or on the radio I tended to 'switch-off', however bloody clever he was I just couldn't warm to he man. It seems I wasn't alone, he seemed to instill similar feelings in others ... oh no, not him again!

But then I chanced upon his memoirs on R4:

Straightforward, unhesitatingly honest and often painful to listen to. The story that shaped the man has forced an about turn in my initial views. Those that have not yet heard this can't understand my about face.

So Chris, I'm sorry. I'll pay attention from now on.

I always liked him, although I didn't know his story. He was such a breath of fresh air after the ghastly Bill Oddie!
I've always like both of them tbh. Though Oddie has the reputation for being 'difficult', and a bit of an @rse, one look at an old Goodies clip (and an appreciation of his struggles with depression) and all is forgiven. Had no idea of Packham's story till recently either, but I've always thought he merited listening to. :okay:

Very not preened and polished when he started. But knows lots.

Chris Packham is a proper dude. And it's nice to have on TV someone we grew up with on The Really Wild Show. Listen out for him smuggling the titles and lyrics of punk, new wave and indie songs into the scripts.

My brother did some filming with him on moths at Wicken Fen for BO goes wild.
Apparently he's not the most likeable chap....( that was censored!)
As a kid I used to idolise him, and my brother too for that matter.

Cheers, just started listening. I've always liked the man ever since I heard his music taste back in the 80s. He seems like one of the good guys too.
