That's your opinion. You do know more that 50% of kids born in the UK are 'bastards' ?
Well more than that, there were nearly 700,000 people born in England and only 55,000 in Scotland - so closer to 90% were utter bastards ;)

You are probably right.

It seems non-religious people are more bothered about it !

I'm more than happy to engage with other religion's celebrations. That's part of the rich verity of life. I don't follow my own religion - i.e. I don't go to church, but I do follow which is every religion's values is that 'look after each other' - simple...

All anyone asks is respect each person ! Religion is not needed for that.

If you are really an atheist, then it's just a building, all they are saying are just words. They have no power, so why not go in? Not going feels pretty superstitious to me.

Go. Welcome the tyke into the world. It's sounds like she/he is going to need all the love and support that the family can give.

Ceremonies are important markers of transitions. We have secular versions for marriage and death, but oddly not birth.
If it's CofE, that pretty much counts as secular.

I'm an atheist (I might even be one of those extreme atheist lot but I tend not to pay too much attention to things that don't seem to need further defining) and quite happy to go along with other people's "stuff" as long as it's all convivial.

I tend to be less accommodating towards f*ckwits.

Adultery? Bastard? I'm waiting for whore, whoreson and whoremonger.

Rereading the original post, it seems to be a nice group of people building a family in awkward circumstances.

@Milzy - you, on the other hand, are a judgemental PoS. You are objecting to people breaking social mores that literally have no meaning if you are an atheist. Please follow @theclaud's advice and keep your poisonous self away from the child, and the loving family.

(Of course there are many ethics atheists should follow, but caring about who others have consensual sex with is definitely not one of them)

I'm sorry but they shouldn't entertain christening a bastard. If something's worth doing then do it properly. At least the child has a step mum they'll never meet.

So you're an atheist - but you still care about the sanctity of marriage. Top trolling.
