I say wear a dress and have a few spares in the car, it is only one item and if the first one raises eyebrows change for another, It might have the advantage of freaking out the supercilious douche bags
My girlfriend at the time was invited to a party with a princes and paupers theme. She had a couple of well worn boiler suits that made the job easy, At the party there were old soldiers in their red uniform, guys in frock coats women in I dunno what but posh and us. The strange thing was that they treated us like we were actually chimney sweeps or something - we left early.

That's actually quite clever. Based on recent Amazon searches I suspect...... the ensemble would be a Schoffel fleece gilet, a pair of shooting stockings and a pair of Meindl mountain boots. Oh, and dog crate. (To keep him off the sofa?)
Reasonable recommendations, Slomos will probably include a Gimp suit.

When they open the door simply exclaim 'I've come in my pants!'
I can't help feeling that that might be a bit premature.

How about a decent quaility tweed jacket? If you buy on line from a "country clothing" type shop rather than from a so-say posh chain abiut £250 will get you something uk made from English or Scottish cloth. As warm as a coat, smart enough for best, whilst not OTT for down the pub and tough too. And much more versatile than a proper suit - which unless you need one for work is more limited for everyday wear.

Mine's from Charles Wall and is superb.

Good advice. I have inherited a couple of Harris tweed jackets from dead friends and they are rather fine, if a tad warm. My current problem is the staining potential of my legwear. I suspect I will be forced to make a last minute dash to TKMax. I might add some extra security by getting some NikWax.

Don't sit on the white sofa. Could that be a plan?

My aunt was one of those 'don't stain the sofa' sorts. She had a new three piece suite and had covers made to protect the fabric and over this was made to measure wipe clean plastic covers I would usually stand for my drive by visits thinking if a chair/sofa is not meant to be sat on what is it for.
