Christmas things you miss

My Nan would always get The Sunday Post newspaper when I was a kid. Every week I would sit down and read the cartoons.

At Christmas, she would get me either the Oor Wullie or The Broons annual. I loved them!

It's funny the daft old things that pop into your head this time of year!

Scottish cartoon strips. In dialect. I was the only kid round our way who said "crivens" and "braw." I'm English.

Being cold, disappointment with the presents, boredom...no, nothing I miss from Christmas past.

I miss those Advent calendars that, rather than having a piece of chocolate had a small picture of something in. Sometimes religious and sometimes not.

We still looked forward to opening the little door each morning.

Yup, the excitement of a "new bike christmas".

It still lives on whenever i get a new bike, even at the age of 41 in june.

The deal in our house was that in the middle of the night while my brother and I were sleeping, (shared room) dad would sneak in and leave a Beano annual for me and a Dandy for my brother. This gave us something to do when we woke at 4am instead of running into their room and getting them up.
