Hello,
I ride my giant expression n7 just over weekends when I have time and I like doing 40, 60 mile trips. Ive never had proper pedals and shoes and would like to give it a go. There are so many options available on the market that I'm a bit lost.
What I have read online so far points me to Shimano m424. This would give me flexibility if I wanted to use normal shoes and go shopping for example. In terms of shoes I quite like road shoes, dont know whether I can use them with m424 pedals.
Many cyclist recommend cliples r540 however I don't know if I need something like this.
I'm planning on buying a road bike in the future so I lean towards road setup.
What would you recommend?

Regards,
Simon

Those pedals take an SPD cleat, you can get more road or touring type shoes that take these, with the benefit of the cleat being recessed so you can walk more of less normally. Unlike SPD-SL road shoes where the cleat is bigger and sits proud of the shoe

Such as http://www.wiggle.co.uk/shimano-rt82-spd-touring-cycle-shoes/?lang=en&curr=GBP&dest=1&kpid=5360461366&sku=5360461366&ci_src=18615224&ci_sku=5360461366uk&utm_source=google&utm_term&utm_campaign=Shoes&utm_medium=base&utm_content=sW8HUl1CI_dt|pcrid||pkw||pmt||prd|5360461366uk

You can use either pedal set up on a roadbike no problems, but if you want one system, I'd say SPD offers more flexibility, especially if there's walking involved

Shoes, get ones that are comfortable :smile:
