Sunday 17th

RaceCourse/Park
Pontefract
(adjacent to jct 32/M62)

It's a race-day
The course itself is the longest flat course in Europe, at 2 miles
It's also used for the Pontefract ParkRun, with a lap of the lake, full lap of the course, & another of the lake
https://www.parkrun.org.uk/pontefract/course/
I ran the first ever race there, in 2011; https://www.parkrun.org.uk/pontefract/results/1/
(yesterday was event 669)

I was listening to a podcast on this issue, whilst driving back from Ringway Airport at teatime
The 2 presenters reckoned that if the 'fail' had featured the issue, it might gain some action about it, rather than just being reported in 'industry media'
https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/ar...targeted-gas-attacks-UK-service-stations.html

I think it's a bit of a non story, there were reports of British Caravan & Motor home owners being gassed whilst overnighting on French Aires, yet nobody came forward to say that it had actually happened to them, just an urban myth, theft out of trailers is nothing new either, my Dad was recently telling me of the so called Liverpool Runners in the late 50's early 60's that would steal from slow moving lorries going up a certain incline in Liverpool, then scarpering, trailer curtains have been getting slashed for years to steal from, that's why you see so many empty lorries parked up overnight with the doors open, so that thieves can see there's nothing on board, saving another costly repair, stealing diesel again, it's gone on forever, it's just not news i'm afraid.

Just browsing through an old issue

When was the last time you saw a FIAT tractor-unit, or indeed any FIAT truck?

They used to be everywhere, as were Magirus-Deutz
It’s in article about a show in Cork

The issue in question

Saturday 6th

Daughter sent me this earlier
They’re somewhere northbound on the A1, in the very top end of North Yorkshire/County Durham

She’s never seen a Pigeon truck before, heading to the release point

Although they used to get released from the car-park of a WMC not too far from where we previously lived, but she was too young to remember, when we moved

I know the distances involved in the UK, pale into insignificance by comparison, but the US knows the value of the truck
Here, the drivers are treated with disdain

Imagine the bosses/salesmens of the companies, whose goods they're carrying having to sleep in a layby, their fancy car being rocked about by passing traffic, then having to widdle in a bottle........

@Drago

I’m referring to the ways they’re treated when out, not driving standards
They’re expected to clear the yard/RDC they’re in, probably not park in the industrial estate/etc, that they’ve delivered to

It was really a reference to the set up, for drivers
They can’t really drive their Scania/DAF/IVECO/etc to the nearest Lidl or wherever, in this country

Oh, I knew where you were coming from Mr T.

I was suggesting that if they behaved a bit better over here then society at large might be better disposed to them and they'd in turn be treated better.

Or maybe not. Money talks, and I guess employers wont spend it where they dont have to. Business tends to take a short-term view of the bottom line over here.
