Just as expensive to fuel, insure and maintain as the day it was made.

Problem is you‘re still maintaining a £60,000 car that’s now worth bugger all. Most are plagued with expensive problems and Mercedes have now discontinued some of the stuff that goes wrong.

A former colleague had a top end Audi A8 or even S8. It was 2 or 3 years old and it cost him maybe 8 grand despite being 80 grand new. My pal, by no means naive and also a bit of a petrol head was quite realistic that it would still have the bills of an £80k car, but still, a lot of car for a modest outlay.

I had the pleasure of driving an A8 when they were first released and it was very nice indeed.

In the early 90's I was lucky to be working at a Toyota main dealership and for whatever reason I listed after one of these https://www.facebook.com/share/19xidNyDuJ/ but the dealer principal wouldn't do me a good deal on one as he could sell every one he could get his hands on so in the end he did me a good deal on a Corolla 1.8 gxi in lichen green instead.

If I was looking for a car now I would still love that

I've had my time with classic bikes and cars, and just haven't got the patience these days for all the problems and unreliability, although I love and admire them, I definitely don't want to own one!

There's no real reason why a properly maintained classic can't be a daily user if you ask me.

They certainly have more style and enjoyment than a lot of today's throw away products.
