Cleat setting up

On my road bike i have spd sl pedals and road shoes.
On the hybrid i am fitting spd pedals(mountain bike style)and am getting some mountain bike type shoes,as i need to walk a fair way at times so road shoes are out of the question.
My road shoes/cleat set up is spot on.Is there a simple way to get the initial set up on the new cleat and pedas somewhere near the others?
I dont suppose i could put the shoes next to the new ones and do it that way.
Any advise would be welcomed.

The MTB shoes will have a different 'fit' compared to the road shoes, so it's best to go through the same setup process as you did for the road shoes, in my opinion. See what others suggest.
