Where was the van and where was he going, if you were going right from the far right of the right lane?

I was in the far right side of the right lane, he was to my left, about 3 feet behind me, but in my lane also turning right.

anyway, no matter, I have learned to be a little more aware than I was, have been, and Tonbridge road out of Maidstone at 8am is a damn busy road, its a bit unfortunate that keeping as close to the left as I can I hit some terrible sunken drains, its a rough ride for sure

From your description, you would be better to wait in the middle of that right-hand lane, to keep the traffic behind you until after you have turned at the lights. You can control what drivers do, to a certain extent, by where you position yourself.

It's also not a good idea to 'keep as close to the left as you can' as it encourages close passes and you'll encounter a lot of debris etc. Better to ride a metre or so from the kerb, and from any parked cars in case a door is suddenly flung open.
Exactly this.
The van driver may or may not have known what he did however if you were turning right in the scenario that you have described then you need to be exactly where TMN has advised above to try to control the lane, don't forget you're trafffic too and, although it can seem a little counter-intuitive to start with, particularly at junctions and roundabouts etc you need to take a commanding position so you can carry out your manouevre as safely as possible

I cant work out if you where in the right of the right hand lane or the left of the right hand lane but right of the left hand lane and if you want to take the lane will you be in the right of the left hand lane and left of the right hand lane or will you be in the middle of the right hand lane :heat:
