I had a brown trouser moment this morning. Riding along a fairly busy single carraigeway road. Hatfield Broad Oak up to Takeley for anyone familiar with it. I was keeping well over to the left as the road is bendy and a fair few big lorries were up and down the road. On a right hand bend a big bulk transporter came up behind me and didn't slow down at all but came past. Trouble was from my left hand view of the road ahead I could see a car coming the other way which the trucker clearly hadn't seen because of the bend. I began braking to give him room, just as well as immediately he saw the car he pulled straight into the left where I was. I ended up on the grass verge, thankfully still upright. Had I not braked I would probably have been hit by the trailer. Thankfully I wasn't hurt, and no bike damage. However that wasn't the end of it. A couple of miles further up the road I saw the truck in a lay-bye and the driver by the side of it waving me down. I was expecting a bust up, but the driver actually apologised. He admitted a momentary loss of concentration and the near accident had shook him up. I thanked him for his apology and just made the point that cyclists need room and that hopefully he will be more careful in future. We shook hands and parted, if not friends, then on good terms.
