Club run crash & driver left scene

Due to the horrid weather there were only 10 of us on todays club run.

After a tea stop at Lepe beach we were heading up a narrow winding lane towards Exbury in a single line when a car overtook us whilst we were going round two blind bends. This resulted in a number of shouts and gestulation from a number of us.

The driver obviously took umbridge to this as he decided (on a straight section of road just after the bends, with nothing in front) to slam his brakes on, coming to a complete stop. Being on the front and with nowhere else to go I piled straight into the back of him.

I bounced off and ended up in a drainage ditch managing to completely smash my rear navigator pista wheel with my left knee (and I thought they were pretty bombproof!)

The driver (mid 50's bloke) stayed stopped for a bit but stayed in the car and stared straight ahead, then forced his way forward past the couple of guys who'd stood in front of the car to try to stop him.

Anyway, police were called and turned up half an hour later and I gave a statement and they took witness details etc. They said the reg we'd given didn't come up but they also said control told them it was a red corsa when it was silver so maybe it will when/if they check. They did seem pretty keen on pursuing it and said he'd commited an offence by leaving the scene without giving his details, also I'd expect/hope his actions would amount to dangerous driving not just careless as it was delibrate.

I was lucky to emerge as walking, well hobbling wounded. Hopefully the police will be able to trace the tw*t.

One of those time when a camera phone or helmet cam would have been ideal.

I'm glad no one was very badly hurt and I hope the police find him.

Hmm wonder if its appropriate to have the reg, full car and driver description posted on here, so that if any of us ffind it we can pass the details on to the rozzers..?

I hope you're ok, puts my near miss today into perspective as I only suffered a puncture. I hope they catch him, and I'd agree from your description deliberate=dangerous, not careless.

Happened to me 3 months ago. I broke and clipped the rear wheel of the rider in front. Damaged shoulder, eldow and hip. Even managed to smash my helmet. Glad I was wearing it

Out today 35 miles, the roads are in a terrible state but the car drivers were a nightmare cutting us up and giving us no room what so ever.
Hope your knee and your bike not too bad?

I'd have tried the door and had his keys. Not trying to be an internret tough guy but he was outnumbered. Leaving the scene of an accident is an offense. I don't think you can get done for having someone's keys.

Someone will be around soon casting some blame or responsibility on to you and ask why you have the temerity to complain about this and what do you want to happen about it.

The driver might have left because he felt rather intimidated when he was surrounded by 10 angry and aggrieved young men. It might be worth seeing if the driver actually reports the incident to the police himself, before we break out the pitchforks.

There is also the possibility of cloned plates - if the OP decides to post the number plate, by all means report the location to the police (who may not know the owner's up-to-date address), but the caveat is that you can not be entirely certain it is the car involved without additional corroborating evidence e.g. accident damage, distinguishing markings, etc.

I know that road. I also know a few residents of that part of the world.... how can I put this politely? box, tools, not the sharpest? one or two of them have also spent some time as guests of Her Maj.
Shame you had to meet one of them on a club run. Hope you are OK
