Someone's imaginary friend
In this age of hopefully burgeoning equality for LGBTQ people, let's not fall into the trap of assuming it's only sexual assault if a bloke slaps a girl on the rear.

It's not up to us to decide. If someone feels sexually violated as a result it should be reported as such and then it's up to the assaulter to defend his actions and the court to decide.

He's a tosser either way and the heavier the book thrown at him the better.

Walk down your local high street, slap a woman on the bum and the police will decide that for you.

that's it really, just because someone's in a van and the other person is on a bike doesn't change things. Or shouldn't, but it does seem to...I can guarantee that none of the people shouting abuse, or throwing things at me, from a car, would do the same to me face to face in the street.

There seems to be some sort of disconnect in behaviour towards others as soon as someone gets on a bike.

I think that the point that some people are making is that leaning out of a vehicle and slapping somebody on the bum really isn't some kind of "jolly jape" by Dennis The Menace, even if they think it will just make the rider wobble (titter, titter) in cartoon style. It's bloody dangerous and could kill them. If there is a possibility of a japester being labelled a nonce, and it works as a deterrent, , it has to start somewhere.

BTW, wasn't there a thread a while ago about this kind of behaviour leading to deaths, somewhere in Kent?

There was a spate of cyclists being pushed of their bikes by car passengers in North Kent a couple of years back, one which resulted in the death of one poor unfortunate soul.

Well the police have eventually managed to get round to taking a formal statement two weeks after the incident and say that they will now visit the firm. Apparently they will 'try' to find out who the occupants of the van were but much depends on how cooperative the firm are.

Whether they intend to get round to this before christmas I don't know but if the firm stonewall and the police won't push it, as a club we won't let it lie and will consider our options.

Half way there
I have only noticed this thread today but it seems apt considering what happened in the TDF yesterday when a car hit professional cyclists who had half a road to try to regain control and ended up over a fence. what would have happened to the cyclists who got slapped if they had not had room to regain composure, could have ended up under the van or the vehicle behind.

the idiots in the van probably dont have the power of forethought, but the consequences need highlighting to them and you would have thought that the firms boss would take control there as the sort of publicity that could be gained from this would be very negative indeed, unless it was the boss or one of his family driving.

it does make me wander about the type of idiot we seem to be breeding in this country.

I hope you get somewhere with this, I'd be absolutely terrified to be slapped at speed with a transit inches away. I've no idea why this type of this is seen as semi acceptable.

If someone ran up the highstreet slapping people I'm sure it'd be treated as a serious incident, and resolved as soon as possible.
