We didn't get the reg but we have witnesses who have told the police that could i.d the slapper. If this had resulted in someone going under the wheels of the van I'm pretty sure the police would have pursued it with a bit more vigor. It took them three weeks to even get in touch with the firm.

Anyway, a letter from the club will be going to the police and as the firm have refused to take responsibility for it's employees actions we feel justified in taking some direct action, they may shortly find their check a trade entry inundated with negative comments for a start.

Wouldn't that be a shame ;)

Hmmm I've just looked at the check a trade site and it looks designed to stop any negative comments going on there.

Anyone got any other ideas for some quick interim action?

I think contacting the paper about the company is the way to go.
Or you could speak to a solicitor about some sort of civil action.

You will probably find the van driver was a member of the owner's family!!

You could have a Facebook and Youtube channel to ensure anyone searching for the company name in Google comes across some interesting information, as long as it is true it's completely legal.

If you put a thread along the lines of 'KJ Kilford Ltd. the firm which refuses to cooperate with the police when one of it's employees assaults a female cyclist' on here and other forums and got lots of people to click on it, would it start coming up on a Google search?

How about a letter/request for meeting with your local MP? Also, are there any victim support type groups who may be able to help your lady member, and be able to assist you in taking up the banner as it were?

Good luck!

Yes it would.

If you created a web page and put the firms title numerous times in the meta-data field it would also appear on search results.

I know its tempting but try and keep it legit. Go through the usual protocols (IPCC, lawyers to potentially sue the van driver and his occupant, and/or the press)

If none of them work out....

..oh and buy a helmet cam!

It's looking like a letter to the police from the club and then a complaint to the IPCC with the press informed will be the most likely next actions.

The police response has also become part of the issue, i.e taking two weeks to take a statement and three to even contact the firm.
I undestand that the PC who took the statement as much as said that he wouldn't be able to do much unless they went 'ok guv'nor it's a fair cop, throw on the bracelets'. I really don't think they could be bothered.

Can any police on here shed any light on what they could do in these circumstances?

Its the problem I ran into when I was punched, the car hadn't got a registered keeper and it took a couple of months to trace the driver, when they finally traced him him he told them "he couldn't remember an incident with a cyclist and he couldn't remember having a passenger that day". I got contacted to say they had interviewed the driver and told me what he had said, then they told me they couldn't continue the inquiry and that was it.

Well the letter at least had some effect, I got a call from a police sargent (whilst touring in Belgium, well sat outside a bar with a nice Trappist Dubbel to be exact) to say they were reopening the case and they're now been in contact and taken statements from other members of the group. Whether this leads to any actual action remains to be seen.
