Can we have some degree of self-moderation please, perhaps take a break from the thread if you are unable to moderate your replies.

Thankyou.

As a woman, I would feel violated if some stranger 'patted' or 'slapped' my backside.

I would not feel violated if they slapped my face - and presumably as they would be in front of me, I would be able to slap them back.

As a man I'd not feel violated having my arse slapped by a woman even if the motive was sexual

I'd feel endangered if it was while I was riding my bike.

We're allowed to have differences of opinion, and picking each other apart when we don't know how this is going to proceed seems a bit silly.

Why not wait for Dave to report back on how the police are going to proceed with this. I'll be interesting to see how they define the charges, if any, that should be brought upon the driver and his mate, and whether, as a result of their investigations, a fine or prosecution will result.

I think at the very least we would probably all agree that stupid behaviour like this is dangerous and should be acted on by the police, so well done for reporting it Dave.

Cheers,
Shaun

I never realised you could also have a mob of cyclists.
I bet if he only slapped the men you could do him using the sexual discrimination laws.

Might it be an idea to bring this incident to the attention of the company involved?

http://www.loft-conversions.eu/index.html

Maybe losing his job would be a satisfactory punishment, given that IMHO the justice system will be a total waste of time, whatever type of assault he may or may not get prosecuted for.

... bloke in back with sliding door open slapping as many of us as he could.

IIRC unless the van is equipped for carrying passengers............................... proper seats, seat belt etc this is an offence as well.

I also note this firm is registered with Checkatrade

What is Checkatrade?

Never be threatening, or verbally or physically abusive.

Deal with any complaints promptly and professionally.

My emphasis, but formal complaint(s) about the actions of this company will rock the boat nicely.

It was an act of stupidity and the police should have words of course, jumping up and down with glee at a chance to get someone on the nonce register for it is taking things a bit far IMHO.

Agree totally. Moronity of the highest order claiming 'sexual assault' and demanding someone be put on the sex-offenders register. Words fail me when there's people who think along those lines. Definitely not people to trust who come out with that guff. Yes, he deserves being taught a lesson but to go that far is beneath contempt.

IMO this counts as a low grade assault in itself but it must be treated seriously because it could have had extremely serious i.e. injurious consequences, which you would have thought would have been fairly bleeding obvious to anybody: the people doing this must have been as thick as they are irresponsible.

However, to bring sexual assault into it seems to be using a technicality in much the same way as lawyers use them to get crooks off the hook. Sexual assault is a serious matter and while getting slapped on the arse could be taken as offensive, it does not in my view constitute sexual assault and so there is no justification for getting stupid about it. The arse-slapping should however be taken into consideration at sentencing time if it ever came to court as it just aggravates the whole thing.

The driver was using a company van on a Sunday. If it wasn't a journey to work or being used exclusively for company business, the driver has to declare the van as a taxable benefit, £1500 I believe. Just a thought

Sorry to hear about this incident - moronic horseplay that could have gone horribly wrong. I feel sure that had someone in your group come a cropper the van guys would have been horrified.

I think proving a sexual motive would be hard work - this fool slapped every rear within reach. If he'd singled out the females however.......

Best of luck getting a successful 'closure'.
