Very nearly bought a co2 pump today after the pot hole blow out. Knew I'd need to make a better tyre boot for a couple of days till the new tyre arrived as I needed to let the tyre down again when in work. All that pumping, but I though sod it. The pump is not hard work to get to 100 PSI, it just takes a while (like about 3 minutes), and the thing works every time, hence why I have 3 of them. Blackburn airsticks, 2 multi fit and one fancy carbon wrap (free cycling mag gift).

Did you have a puncture today? Never would have guessed:whistle:

oh yes, yes of course i check the pressures! well i at lest give the tyres a squeeze
so really latex tubes are only worth it if racing or TT'ing
Cheers Ed

You can get some lightweight butl tubes these days which are pretty good, but latex tubes are just great in so many ways. The ride quality is great imho

I must admit I've never really considered inner tube weight.
A tube is a tube is a tube to me and I check / reinflate about once a week which equates to about 150 miles riding.

Latex tubes are light and feature lower rolling resistance and less mass on the outer diameter of the wheel -- meaning quicker accelerations and easier maintenance of speed.
An added benefit over standard butyl rubber tubes is a greater elasticity that enables them to be more puncture resistant. The only downside is that latex tubes are more porous than their black butyl counterparts. You'll need to air them up before every ride and if they sit a week or more, they'll appear totally flat. But all cyclists check their pressures before each ride anyway, right? I most certainly do.
this is a very biased view of latex tubes!

feel free to offer a more balanced view if you feel it is appropriate

question here...i may sound totally thick but how do you know how many psi your putting in with one of those? id be afraid the whole cartridge would go in and it would burst ive got a mini pump but a normal person couldnt pump it over 40psi im a big guy and can get 80 at an absolute crazy push using my legs and arms to force each pump of air into it ( the pump goes up to 130) are there any easier pumps that dont require much effort to get to road pressures or are theese co2 thingy's worth it

was that the one where idiots were putting nails out on the track in protest?

Yep that was the one and looking at where I punctured it seems likely I was a victim of the nails. Though I didnt realise the cause until I read a news article today, there was no evidence when I inspected my tyre at the time.
