avoid Morecambe and Bridlington, they're both horrible!

other than that, expect lots of head winds when you get into the latter part

If you are doing the way of the roses, you'll enjoy it. its a really nice route.
if you are travelling back from Brid on the train, try to avoid peak time trains & trains coming down from Scarborough, as you may struggle to get on with your bikes

avoid Morecambe and Bridlington, they're both horrible! Based on what Lee M ? How many hours have you spent in Morecambe ? Taken the time to talk to people living here ? Or is it an assumption similar to me basing my opinion on Essex and its people from watching that trash 'TOWIE'. ?
I am lucky to travel the world working, meeting many people and find many to be truely wonderful regardless of where they are from.(And may I point out, I dont work in an office chatting up clients with bull. I work in some pretty horrible, poverty ridden places with real problems)

Living in Morecambe I feel better to comment than Lee M. Parts of Morecambe are not particularly nice but the East end with fantastic kids park, heading towards Hest Bank, Halton, Bolton Le Sands etc are fantasic places. Twenty Mins from the South Lakes and some beautiful roads, riding and places to visit. We have amazing sunsets and views across the Bay. I am originally from Yorkshire and both are my favourite places to be.

Jeznjan, my advice.....stay a while in Morecambe/Lancaster and make up your own mind before travelling route 69

Its great how we defend where we live. Quite right too.
I live in Manchester that gets so much stick from down south. However as you pointed out its done through ignorance. Its a great city with a huge heart, but has its own problem areas.
My Auntie lived in Bridlington and I thought it was a lovely place.
Talking to an old guy the other day about touring. He said "It's not about the place. It's about the people you meet." Do for me.

don't forget to 'dip your wheel' at each end, otherwise you'll get the odd numpty claiming you haven't really done a 'coast to coast'.

and yes, the Morecambe and Lancaster area is lovely, but like every other town, they have the odd rough edge.

Spend some time on the stone jetty lapping up the view... pop in to the midland hotel and look up at the wonderful spiral staircase, have an over priced coffee.... have a wonder down the tiddly-om-pom-pom, have your photo taken with Eric, take an excursion up to Heysham to find the setting of this Black Sabbath album cover:

wow, bit of a response to a jokey comment, have you got a chip on your shoulder perhaps?

As it happens I know morecambe quite well, having gone to university in Liverpool, and being married to a girl from the north west and I know bridlington very very well, having gone there on holiday every year from the age of 3 until I was 18, and have been back many times since

I am also originally from Yorkshire, just 'cos I currently live in Essex doesn't mean I dont have any experience of anywhere else, so tell me what do you know of Essex?

Chip on shoulder ? No. Giving reasons why I disagree with your comment is not a chip it's just my choice. As yopu will see from the responses, most people took it in jest as it was meant. Never been to Essex or plan on going which is why I dont comment on the place. Had I been to a University close to Essex like 'birmingham',( about as close to Essex as Liverpool is to Morecambe) then I may comment
Oh and I never mentioned Bridlington either.

Well, I am from Yorkshire. I live near Bridlington and used to work there. I've never been to Morcambe, but it is on my list to visit when I do the Way of the Roses. Yesterday I drove to Essex with a mate to pick up a car. The people I met were lovely. I had a fantastic breakfast at the Blue Room cafe near Ongar, saw two blokes ride to the cafe on Pinarello Dogma 60.1's. And the sun was shining.
