Hi

Can anyone recommend me a coffee bean grinder thats not made from cheese ?

I just love the fresh smell and maybe it's me though pre ground coffee just dont smell the same after a few days being opened despite being kept in the fridge

I got a Porlex Mini for Christmas and it seems fab so far and beautifully portable.
Used with an aeropress.

I was thinking about posting it on YACF funnily enough though it would have just turned into a long distance audax thread

The downside to fresh ground coffee is that you go into work knowing that you will not be getting a drink for the rest of the day that is anywhere near as nice as the one you had at breakfast time.

We use a Kitchenaid but it is not exactly portable

It's a bit more complicated than that...
A blade "grinder" is a waste of time - you have no control over the fineness of the grind, and it's very easy to overprocess. Get a burr grinder. We swear by the basic Krups one.

(none of which helps the OP who wanted a manual grinder)

+1 for the basic krups burr grinder. Been using one every day for the last year and it's excellent

That's why a Porlex Mini and an Aeropress (though you could als use a small caffitiere or filter paper) is a great combo, I got mine precisely to take to work and holidays etc.
Takes about 2 mins to grind 17g of beans.

I got given one of these for Christmas. It really is a revelation.

(a) At the office I make do with crap
(b) Life's too short - Whittards do perfectly adequate coffee beans

Damn you srw, me wanty now and my Birthday was over a week ago now :cursing:
Looks brilliant!

Beanwise I'm using Union Revalation from Waitrose, which is great, but am open to suggestions. Tried Breakfast Bomb and Jailbreak from Hasbeans and they're yucky citrussy.
