You have 2 types of cleaning for an espresso machine. Descale, which cleans from the water tank through all pipes & outlets. Secondly there's flush, which cleans the outlet side of the machine, group head, steam wand & hot water spout.

Costa have been closing outlets, presumably the poor performers in order to make the rest of the chain more attractive to potential suitors.

Bain Capital also own Gail's and Pizza Express, both of which have presumably struggled in recent years.

Costa has been owned by Coca-Cola since 2019, who have plenty of prior experience in profitting from putting abysmal drinks everywhere. Previously owned since 1995 by Whitbread pubs/hotels, a less successful but still very profitable spreader of poor drinks (with the brewing mostly sold to InBev in 2001). Quality not needed, you see?

This all surprises me slightly; Co-op has been in bed with them for several years, and generally they are very good at finding reputable/sustainable/woke suppliers. As a frequent night cyclist, I perk up seeing a Co-op as there's a high chance of a respectable (and working) coffee machine!

It depends on the co-op. Central Co-op sometimes (maybe usually?) have Insomnia Coffee machines.

East of England co-op is completely different setup too, theyve been closing alot of stores lately and then consolidating into newer builds. cheaper rents I guess. but whilst Ive seen a coffee machine in them, abit like the machines they have in petrol stations Ive never ventured to find out if theyre any good

East of England at Cambridge North station has Costa machines, within sight of a full Costa branch in the station front. Disappointing.

Whilst at the Riverside shopping estate along our way, decided I needed a coffee. Saw a sign which initially appeared odd stated 'Greggs' and immediately underneath 'Costa'.
Tokk myself over there and on entering the common door, you turned left for Greggs and right for Costa.
Knowing Costa's prices, I headed left - !
Having bought my selection after having queued for several minutes, I sat near the door and it was interesting to observe that virtually everyone who came in also headed for Greggs - !
Wonder why -?

Maybe that is their problem. Making good coffee is not rocket science, though it did seem too much for McDonalds.

see Id have still gone right as I really dont like the taste of Greggs coffee, but i suspect Greggs is more popular for its food offerings than its drinks alone

The only reason I use Costa is if you use your own cup, you get two green beans on the app (10 for a free drink). And it's any drink so extra large mocha for the free one lol.

If you are buying more than 1 drink in your own cups, put them though as separate orders as it'll only given 2 green beans for the first own cup drink in an order.

The regional Co-Op thing is very confusing - We went into a Co-op in Lincolnshire to find it wasn't an East of England. Whilst of holiday a few years back we went in one in the Midlands to be told it was an East of England. Total mystery that Co-op use a different map to the rest of us

They're different co-operative societies using the same branded goods. For example, my local co-op shop is a Central England shop. The Central England co-operative society has just merged with the Midcounties co-operative society so they will have branches over a large geographical area.
