Been out looking at bikes today and I've fallen in love!

Was looking to spend about £1000 until I found this for £1550 in a lbs

What do we think?
Am I being blinded by pretty colour schemes and the name?

Is there a better place to spend £1500 in this price bracket?

I'm starting to understand specs etc but still really haven't got a clue!

That is a fairly committed CX race bike. What is your intended use for the bike?

Ha I love the look of it! It's will initially be used as a commuter until I build up some gear and confidence then....who knows??!

If you like it, can afford it, go for it - just make sure they let you have a proper testride on one that is the right bike. I doubt you'll see many more on the road...or you could spend £1500 on a Specialized and wave at all the other Spesh owner.

It is a lot of money for aluminium with 105 though! That said Colnago are expensive

It's quite full on for commuting - just spend another 10% of the cost on proper locks...you'll end up doubling your budget by the end I reckon

Take a look at the On One Dirty Disco - that's what I'd get if I was looking for a disc braked CX race bike.

If on the other hand I was looking for a laid back disc braked commuter, then I'd probably get the Kona Honky Tonk. Steel you see.

The Colnago feels very overpriced really - but it's your money  You'll lose less on the Boardman if you find yourself wanting to upgrade in the spring

I quite like it. Horribly, horribly overpriced though. And a white 'cross bike? Clearly they don't expect to sell it to anyone riding CX ;)

Still, if you like it, go for it. I'd shop around a bit first though.

It's a better vfm bike - different gearing - the Boardman has SRAM Apex, the Colnago Shimano 105

Are you completely new to bikes, or at least dropped bar ones?

Value for money can be a false economy sometimes. You have to ride a bike that stirs something in you, otherwise you'll be on the look for a replacement sooner or later. Boardmans generally don't inspire that in me so I would look elsewhere, I'm not a pro so I have the luxury of riding what I love to ride rather than looking at a spec sheet and riding on numbers. That passion for my bike will be remembered long after the price is forgotten.

Well of course the OP has to try all the options as best he can - presumably he does like the Boardman if he keeps going back to it, unless it really is only price
