So what advantage is there in riding a fixed gear over a single speed (freewheeler)? I can only think that you may get slightly better exercise by not being able to lift off, and having a bit of braking available through the pedals. The downside would seem to be that it's harder setting off in the right position, and not being able to lift the pedals to go round a tight corner. Or am I missing something (I usually am.)

My second commutte today and feeling more at one with the fixie, have just ordered a 13 tooth rear gear, i think that would suit my commutting better, well i will give it a go anyway, :becool:

I've been commuting on a Fixed for 5 years now and its been very good, I was commuting on a fixed in the late 1980's-early 1990's as well.
My Pearson has mudguards, carrier, Lights, Brakes back and front, runs a 44x18 65 inch gear on 165 cranks with clips and straps.
welcome to the club Derrick.

I always thought a "fixie" was a football match with Bruce Grobelaar in goal

I am coming to the Christmas drinks. Unless I've been uninvited. My lame attempts at humour on bookface often seem to badly confuse!
