Hi,
I have recently built up a vintage bike with beautiful simplex super lj (gold) friction shifters and derailers. I also purchased an on one touring crankset which has pins and ramps for smoother shifting like all modern crank sets do. As well as this I run a vintage maillard freewheel. I was wondering if it is mechanically ok to run a correctly sized chain intended for indexed shifting with this setup?
Alternatively is it fine for a vintage chain (intended for friction shifting) to run over a modern chainring like mine?
Any help will be much appreciated!

:welcome: Any 5-8 speed chain is the same size as a 'Vintage' chain on derailleur gears, unless its that funny early Campagnolo set-up.

It'll be fine, so long as the block isn't too worn to mesh with a new chain. Even then it'll bed in quite quickly unless it's seriously worn.
