It took ages for that bike in NYC to start disappearing so you have to conclude that until it becomes noticed and known as an abandoned bike it is reasonably safe, statistically?

From the results of that, I would far rather take my chances parking a bike in NYC than anywhere near here! It's not until about day 110 that someone helps themselves to the pump; day 160 the water bottle; day 212 the basket, day 230 the saddle. After that the bikes demise speeds up a bit until the whole thing is gone by day 270.
Try that in any big city in Britain. Substitute the above days for minutes and you wouldn't be far off.

Last time I left my very well looked after Trek MTB in Edinburgh, I locked it to a post and went to use the toilet. Came back after 10 minutes and someone had taken the front section of the front mudguard. They snapped it off at the bracket (Topeak defender) so probably were only needing the front section.

Wasting a parking space for a year to make a (bad) timelapse video is pretty selfish imho, especially in a busy city like NYC where bike parking is limited.
Possibly, but if you watch after the bike is removed then there are few if any examples of both sides of the rack being used. This may be a factor of when the pictures were taken I suppose.

What I took from that video was that while the bike was fully in tact then it stayed for a long time. As soon as one bit went then the rest rapidly followed. Perhaps people are more likely to nick bits from a bike they think of as abandoned than parked.

Ah - needs those medieval punishments I suggested in an earlier post.

Forget stocks and the pillory, just D lock their necks to a Sheffield stand. (And throw the key away).
