Sorry Accy but..No,but I managed to correct the open book affect bit. I'm taking this thing into the shop where I bought it from today. Now I have a black square appear when I type letters!

Thanks,that seems to have worked. Though I now have blank/black borders at the sides of my screen meaning what I see is square and not rectangular and the black square is still here.

Sounds like a graphics card drivers either failed to update correctly or reverted to a 'safe mode style' output. But without knowing the laptop make model/os its difficult to diagnose for sure.

Thanks,but i'm leaving it alone for a while. I don't want to feck it up again! If it's fine weather tomorrow (chance'd be a fine thing!) i'll take it to the shop and let him sort it out.

Has anyone mentioned pressing the Any key yet?
