Converting fixed to quick release wheel

I suspect this isn't easy, but...

Is it possible to convert a fixed wheel (bolted-on) to a quick-release system, or would it be cheaper and easier to buy a new wheel?

I've just got a new Btwin Triban 3 to replace my old MTB, bought a turbo-trainer to go with it but have now seen worrying reports about how quickly it will shred the rear tyre - soooo, ideally I'd like to set up the MTB permanently on the TT leaving my shiney new bike for outdoor use only.

Any experience would be appreciated. Thanks, Mark

Always used to be able to buy hollow axles for this sort of conversion, you just had to make sure threading was the same and swop the cones over.
Don't know if still available - especially for MTBs with 135mm OLN
Did you mean fixed wheel though? - as in no gears, no freewheel ? QR is not recommended for fixed wheel use. - although I do run this myself having failed utterly to convert a QR wheel to a solid axle. The lever has to be done up tighter than a tight thing.

Thanks for quick reply. I probably don't mean fixed wheel, just mean bolted-on as opposed to QR - MTB is 5-speed, nothing fancy. I actually haven't tried it on the turbo trainer but advice was that it had to be a QR system, and to be fair there was a stainless steel QR pin in the box.

I might just get a spare wheel/trainer tyre for use on the turbo trainer.

Don't know much anything about turbos - but I think QR may be necessary.
Hollow axle link - go for the 145mm, ditch the cones off it, put on the ones from the old wheel, so it should put the balls in the right place w.r.t. the cups.

That looks ideal, free delivery too and not expensive. I'll have a wee play with the MTB rear wheel, in the meantime it looks like good weather tomorrow so out on the new bike it is!
