That would be sad . I can only imagine what it would be like to enter a "bike pound", and walk past all these lonely, neglected bicycles, some of them making puppy-dog eyes at me:cry:.
Walked past over 200 bikes at the local police station, and I wasn't allowed to take one.
They were going for scrap only!

Well that's a criminal waste (pun intended).
Property officer pointed one out that would have cost over £2000 to buy. And then we moved onto the cheaper stuff(£1000+)!!
There were of course the ones that no-one would admit to riding. But there was some good bikes there, and one would have done me.

Police Auctions are supposed to be quite good for picking up some of the old bikes no one claims. Seems CPH is doing better than Cambridge! there's a fair few here.. trying to find a safe place to lock a bike around here takes a bit of working out.. as consequence I have two good strong forms of lock for my bike. a 4of5* rated D-lock and re-enforced wire loop to protect my quick release wheels from removal. Sometimes some places still don't seem safe enough with all that extra security!

Never made it to auction
No. You'd have been tagged if there were. One specialized bike though. White & red.

Also avaiable on the NPT page for Leeds East.
Interesting about the problems caused by bad bike parking. In Antwerp and Leuven the police go in with bolt cutters and put illegally parked bikes in a pound. I bet most of them never get claimed.
We could learn from that for the endemic pavement parking

Its not so much bad pavement parking, you have to see it to believe it. It looks like a massive scrap yard. Its like trying to get a thousand cars into a carpark for a hundred cars. I bet many cyclists return to their bike at night and think "Sod that, Im not digging it out of there and walk home" I think it could well be the same in Holland.

Copenhagen could use a massive cycle storage depot in the centre of the City.

Our police department quit having auctions, claiming they didn't make enough. I explained to them that was not their fault, nor the fault of the bicycles, but the fault of the auctioneer. Lots were sold with many good bikes in them that were sold just like those with bad bikes in them, and no one new the value of the bikes. There is also a web site in the US where the police can list bicycles for sale, as well as other stuff. On Ali Baba, you can buy a whole shipping container of old Japanese commuter bicycles, BTW.

wow! I wonder how many pretty racers are in that pile! I'd want loads of odd bits to make a hybrid Super bike :P (with lots of spare parts of course!) what a dream that pile would be. What a fab find!
